Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has dismissed recent Indian accusations against Pakistan as “a bundle of lies” and “ill-intentioned,” asserting that New Delhi’s claims are designed to deflect attention from human-rights abuses in occupied Kashmir.
In an official statement, Gilani accused India of “panic-driven tactics” and urged the international community to take note of what he called “New Delhi’s malicious propaganda.” He insisted that baseless allegations against Pakistan serve only to obscure widespread reports of violence and suppression across the Line of Control.
Gilani also condemned India’s decision to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, calling it “a deplorable act of water aggression.” He warned that New Delhi’s move not only violates longstanding bilateral agreements but also undermines regional stability and cooperation.
“The international community must hold India accountable for these coercive measures,” the Senate Chairman said, emphasizing that such unilateral actions have historically jeopardized peace in South Asia.
India last week officially announced the immediate suspension of its obligations under the Indus Waters Treaty, a pact brokered by the World Bank to govern the sharing of the Indus basin’s rivers. Islamabad has repeatedly warned that any disruption of the treaty would have serious repercussions for both countries.
