Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has strongly condemned the silence of both government and opposition leaders over Israeli aggression in Gaza, saying Pakistan’s ruling elite is acting as servants of the United States.
He questioned why there has been no denunciation of the US and Israel despite ongoing atrocities in Gaza, where, he said, “our children are being martyred while those in power remain mere spectators.”
Addressing participants of the Gaza March on Lahore's Mall Road, Rehman said, “It is shocking that rulers are not condemning Zionist barbarity. Their silence shows that all are lining up for Trump’s blessing.” He warned the ruling class that the nation would not forgive their inaction, urging them to rise against the oppressors while there’s still time.
He called for mobilizing Islamic and pro-Palestinian parliamentarians, delegations, and journalists from non-Muslim countries to form a “Freedom Flotilla” to break the siege of Gaza. “Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its full-throttle protest against Israel and its patron, the United States,” he declared.
Rehman urged people in Muslim countries to pressure their governments through protests, saying that a global wave of demonstrations could force the US to back down and compel Israel to end its cruelty. He commended Lahore’s citizens for their turnout and announced that Karachi would see a massive rally on April 13, followed by marches in Multan on April 18 and Islamabad on April 20, the latter being termed “the largest protest in the capital’s history.”
He further stated that after consultations with religious scholars and business groups, Jamaat-e-Islami will issue a nationwide shutter-down call in support of Palestine.
Speaking on the significance of the march in Lahore, Rehman said that despite short notice and a working day, families joined in large numbers, sending a strong message to the world that their hearts beat for Palestine and Masjid Al-Aqsa. He noted that the protesters were not only expressing solidarity with Palestinians but also denouncing the US and Israel.
“Today, every conscientious person across the globe is speaking up for Hamas. Hamas has become a symbol of resistance,” he added, demanding that the Pakistani government officially recognize Hamas and allow it to open an office in the country.
He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take concrete steps to help Palestinians, stating, “We need actions, not just statements.” He called for a complete boycott of Israeli products and demanded the exposure of those defending or visiting Israel. “Those who dare to speak in favor of Israel will be made an example by the Pakistani nation,” he warned.
He appealed to people from all political affiliations to participate in the upcoming protest marches in Karachi, Multan, and Islamabad.
Referring to the events of October 7, 2023, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman praised Hamas fighters for humbling Israeli arrogance and technology, saying Israeli forces are targeting women and children like cowards and killing doctors, journalists, and UN workers. He said US support for Israeli terrorism was blatant, while international human rights bodies watched silently.
He concluded by warning Arab and Muslim leaders that Israel’s aggression would not stop at Gaza and that this was the moment for them to stand with the Palestinians and Hamas to write their names in history. “If this cruelty continues and our rulers remain silent, what answer will they give to God on the Day of Judgment?” he said, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami is engaging with leaders across the country to convey that this is not a time for silence. “We are fulfilling our responsibility. Jamaat-e-Islami and the people of Pakistan stand with Hamas.”
