Tashkent: In a significant development aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation, Pakistan and Russia have agreed to enhance linkages between their parliaments, including the revival of Parliamentary Friendship Groups to address common challenges. The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Tashkent on Sunday.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko led the discussions, which underscored the mutual commitment of both nations to work together on issues of global importance.
Chairman Senate Gilani emphasized, "Pakistan and Russia share common goals for global peace, security, and the promotion of multipolarity in global affairs." He further highlighted that the evolving relationship between the two countries is built on a foundation of mutual respect and a growing spectrum of cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade, and energy.
The discussions also touched upon the importance of multilateral platforms, with a specific mention of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where both nations continue to work collaboratively to address regional and global challenges.
The revival of Parliamentary Friendship Groups is seen as a strategic move to facilitate dialogue and foster a deeper understanding between the legislative bodies of Pakistan and Russia. This enhanced cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to the global peace agenda and bolster efforts towards a more multipolar world order.
As both nations continue to navigate the complexities of international relations, this initiative marks an important step towards reinforcing bilateral ties and ensuring that shared challenges are addressed through coordinated legislative efforts.
