Country is currently facing immense challenges, both political and economic: Bilawal Bhutto

Lahore:  Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, on Monday said that country is currently facing immense challenges, both political and economic. The politics of hate have reached new heights, and the common man is struggling with poverty and unemployment. The public is waiting for politicians to provide solutions.
He was addressing the Iftar dinner hosted by Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider at Governor House.
The event was attended by former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, General Secretary PPP Central Punjab, Hassan Murtaza, Faisal Mir, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, the leadership of the PPP, media representatives and workers in large number.
Bilawal Bhutto talked in detail about the deep divide in politics, which has made it difficult to form consensus even on national issues.
Chairman PPP pointed out that these challenges are further compounded by the resurgence of terrorism and the growing national security crisis. Terrorist organisations are carrying out attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under various pretexts, and it is clear that these groups are being backed by foreign elements. Chairman Bilawal called for national unity in tackling this threat.
Chairman Bilawal said that unfortunately, certain political parties, due to their ego and self-interest, had chosen not to attend the National Security Committee meeting in Islamabad. He urged the Prime Minister to convene a smillar meeting within the next month to engage the remaining political parties and send a clear message: when it comes to the safety and lives of innocent citizens, all political parties must set aside their differences and unite to defend the country.
Chairman Bilawal assured that the PPP is ready to assist the government in involving other political parties. He reminded that the PPP has made tremendous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and will continue to do so until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country. He also stated that the Opposition Leader was made aware of the broader reality facing the people of Pakistan—economic and security issues far outweighing individual party matters. He urged them to prioritise the national interest over internal party matters.
On the current political situation, Bilawal expressed that the PPP is in a position to engage constructively with both the government and the opposition. He acknowledged that while opposition workers may solely focus on securing the release of their leader from jail, PPP workers are more concerned with addressing the challenges they face such as terrorism and the economic burden. In Punjab, PPP workers are privy to the difficulties and obstacles experienced during the elections firsthand. He emphasised that PPP workers and supporters expect their representatives to play a positive role in resolving these issues.
Chairman Bilawal reiterated that the role of the Governor of Punjab is to serve the people and win their hearts, not to rule over them. He expressed confidence that Governor Punjab is fulfilling these expectations and that similar events will be organised by PPP’s Punjab chapter in the future, as stated by former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. Chairman PPP thanked the attendees and expressed hope that the PPP, its office bearers, and workers will continue to play a positive role in the nation’s development.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that the PPP does not need anyone’s support to survive in Punjab rather it will regain its position in Punjab. The Governor Punjab said that Insha Allah Bilawal Bhutto will become the Prime Minister of the country with the power of the people. He said that since President Asif Ali Zardari has trusted him, he has opened the doors of the Governor House not only for the workers of the PPP, but also for the people of Punjab. The Governor Punjab said that the party workers should not feel alone as far as he was in the Governor House. The Punjab Governor said that it is his heartfelt wish that the heir of the martyrs become the Prime Minister of the country. He said that not a single penny of government has been spent on the Iftars organized at the Governor House so far.
