HEC, ANF Renew Pledge to Combat Drug Abuse in Higher Education Institutions
Islamabad: Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have reiterated their resolve to counter the growing menace of drug abuse among students in the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
In a meeting at HEC Secretariat on Thursday, Director General ANF Major General Abdul Moeed appreciated HEC’s support in creating awareness among the young against the alarming consequences of drug abuse. The Director General ANF underlined that ANF efforts, in collaboration with institutions like HEC, to safeguard the new generations against narcotics are bearing fruit. He shared the outcomes of awareness campaigns run throughout universities across the country and appreciated HEC for facilitation. He added that HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse has been a guiding principle in creating awareness in the higher education institutions.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed expressed HEC’s unwavering commitment to curbing drug usage in the higher education institutions. He offered the ANF to hold direct interactive sessions with universities, as part of its campaigns, through HEC Smart Classroom facility under which over 4000 people could be engaged at a time. “HEC is committed to extending all possible support to the efforts aimed to curb drug usage in higher education institutions and promote a healthier and safer learning environment for students,” he said.
The two sides also discussed feasibility of various new measures to achieve the objectives. They also agreed to further strengthen the strategies to counter the menace of growing narcotics usage that has the potential to cripple youth.
