National Women's Convention Highlights Legislative Achievements and Challenges Faced by Women in Pakistan

 Islamabad: During the National Women's Convention organized by the Women's Parliamentary Caucus at the Parliament House, Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Ghazala Gola, delivered a powerful address emphasizing the significant strides made by women in the Balochistan Assembly. She highlighted the establishment of Anti-Harassment Cells, the formation of a provincial commission on the status of women, and the enactment of the Balochistan Protection of Women Against Harassment at the Workplace Act, among other initiatives.

Ghazala Gola stressed the importance of sharing and learning from the unique experiences of women across various regions. "We must collectively address the challenges faced by women at federal, provincial, regional, and local levels," she stated. "Only through collaboration can we ensure that the benefits of women’s empowerment trickle down to every corner of our society."

The convention also featured insights from Ms. Kalsoom Farman, a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, who underscored the legislative contributions of women in her region. She spoke about the formation of the Commission on the Status of Women in Gilgit-Baltistan, the promotion of child rights, and the implementation of inheritance laws designed to protect women from exploitation. Ms. Farman also addressed the alarming suicide rates in Gilgit-Baltistan, outlining the assembly's ongoing efforts to curb this crisis.

In her remarks, Ms. Farman announced plans for comprehensive meetings with stakeholders aimed at ensuring the socio-economic and political betterment of women in Gilgit-Baltistan. "Our goal is to create a supportive environment where women can thrive and contribute to society without fear of discrimination or violence," she said.

The National Women's Convention served as a platform for women leaders from across Pakistan to unite, share their experiences, and strategize on overcoming the challenges that persist in their respective regions. The event underscored the critical role of women in shaping legislation and advocating for their rights, as well as the need for continued collaboration to foster an inclusive and equitable society.
