Punjab, Police, Law
Lahore, February 1, 2025
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has declared that individuals who claimed to be revolutionaries on May 9 and November 26 must now face legal consequences. She reaffirmed that Punjab Police is actively cracking down on riverine bandits and hardened criminals, ensuring that law enforcement remains firm and impartial.
Punjab Police’s Impartiality Under Maryam Nawaz’s Government
Bokhari, while responding to remarks by Umar Ayub, emphasized that the Punjab Police does not harass innocent citizens, nor does it allow convicted criminals to escape justice. She described the police force as a pillar of law enforcement under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s administration, operating apolitically and impartially.
"The greatest strength of Punjab Police is its firm grip on law enforcement," she stated, dismissing allegations of political bias. She assured that the government has put an end to politically motivated cases and retaliatory actions, ensuring that justice prevails without discrimination.
May 9 Riots: No Political Cover for Criminal Acts
Bokhari also addressed the May 9 riots, in which government properties and monuments dedicated to national martyrs were vandalized. She made it clear that those responsible cannot seek refuge under a political facade.
"Those who desecrated the martyrs’ monuments on May 9 cannot hide behind political rhetoric," she stated firmly.
Her remarks reinforce the Punjab government’s zero-tolerance policy toward individuals involved in anti-state activities and violence under the guise of political protests.
Crackdown on Criminals to Continue
Bokhari reiterated that the Punjab Police will continue its operations against criminal elements across the province. The focus remains on bringing riverine criminals, organized crime syndicates, and those who incite unrest to justice.
With law enforcement under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, the government is determined to uphold stability, law, and order, ensuring that no one is above the law.
