Lahore – March 07: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has said that the government is seeking U.S. approval through new facilitation measures, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is celebrating after receiving appreciation from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Talking to journalists at Mansoorah on Friday, he stated that Pakistan's ruling elite is always in line to win American approval. Questioning the extradition of Sharifullah to the U.S., he asked, “Under what agreement was he handed over?”
Rehman criticized the opposition alliance, saying it lacks seriousness in launching an anti-government movement. “All parties in the country have made deals with the establishment, while Jamaat-e-Islami has made sacrifices for the nation. We will unite with the public and have devised an action plan to address their problems,” he said.
He announced a protest campaign after Eid against expensive electricity and the agreements with independent power producers (IPPs).
The JI chief also condemned Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s treatment of a senior doctor, calling it disrespectful. He remarked, “The world has changed, but the Sharif family's monarchical attitude remains the same.” He criticized the government for being formed based on Form 47. Yet, he added, the ruling elite’s arrogance remains unchecked. “The government only exists in advertisements, with zero performance,” he said.
Addressing the ongoing wave of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Rehman urged meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to restore peace. He warned that conflict between the two nations would only benefit their enemies and emphasized that Afghan soil should not be used for terrorism in Pakistan. He called for an in-camera session involving all political parties and stakeholders to discuss security measures and offered Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in facilitating dialogue with Afghanistan, provided both sides agreed to mediation.
Criticizing the United States, the JI Emir stated, “America has never been our well-wisher. Since 1971, it has betrayed us at every turn. General Musharraf dragged Pakistan into America’s war, and the nation is still suffering the consequences.” He asserted that no single individual has the right to decide the fate of 250 million Pakistanis.
Rehman also criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its silence on the 26th Amendment and its inconsistent stance on Form 45. “PTI won the elections and was treated unfairly, which Jamaat-e-Islami has always condemned. However, PTI’s own attitude is beyond comprehension,” he remarked.
Rejecting the possibility of political or electoral alliances, he said, “We are gaining public support, and we expect further successes in the coming days.”
Commenting on Pakistan-Bangladesh ties, Rehman noted that anti-India sentiments are widespread in Bangladesh. He urged the government to formulate a clear policy, emphasizing that Pakistan and Bangladesh should move forward as two countries but one nation.
