Lahore: People's Lawyers Forum (PLF) Central President and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari emphasized that the PLF must maintain its distinct identity and should not merge with other legal groups during the upcoming bar association elections.

Speaking at a consultative meeting in Lahore, Bukhari stressed that while the PLF should preserve its independence, district-level organizations should consider forming electoral alliances at the local level for strategic purposes.

The meeting, organized under the leadership of PLF Punjab President Raheel Kamran Cheema, focused on developing strategies for the forthcoming elections of the Punjab Bar Association, Supreme Court Bar Association, and Lahore High Court Bar Association.

## Key Attendees and Discussions

The gathering brought together prominent legal figures including Azeem Hafeez (Secretary Information PLF Punjab), Shahid Abbas (President PLF Lahore Division), Qamar Abbas (President PLF High Court), Vice President Syed Zahid Shirazi, and several other advocates including Raja Abdul Rehman, Iftikhar Shahid, Manzoor Shah, Zahid Chaudhry, Shakeel Pasha, Irshad Jadran, and Imran Khokhar.

During his address, Bukhari clarified his role in the consultation process, stating, "I have come to consult regarding the Supreme Court and Lahore High Court Bar elections. I have never demanded all the positions that the People's Party has secured."

The PPP leader also raised concerns about resource allocation, noting that development funds are not being provided to Punjab members of the National Assembly from their party.

## PLF's Electoral Strategy

PLF Punjab President Raheel Kamran Cheema outlined the forum's electoral participation, revealing that 16 PLF candidates from across Punjab will contest the upcoming elections. He emphasized the strategic importance of the PLF, asserting that "the independent group cannot win without PLF support."

Cheema expressed dissatisfaction with the PLF's representation in the current coalition government, advocating that future decisions should involve consultation with all four provincial presidents of the organization.

Following the meeting, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari visited the residence of Altaf Qureshi, a member of the party's Federal Council, to offer condolences and prayers (Fateha) for a recent family bereavement.

The PLF continues to position itself as a significant player in Pakistan's legal community, balancing independence with strategic political alliances as bar association elections approach.
