HYDERABAD: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the United States, by designating the BLA and Majeed Brigade as terrorist organizations, has validated Pakistan’s position and marked a significant diplomatic success. He added that efforts would now be intensified to secure a similar ban on these organizations through the United Nations. Chairman PPP also urged the federal government to immediately convene a meeting of the National Finance Commission and announce a new NFC Award without delay.
According to the press release issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, Chairman PPP said that the BLA and Majeed Brigade deliberately target workers and innocent civilians, and had openly sided with Modi during the recent Pakistan–India conflict.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the Modi government continues to pursue its threat to block the waters of the Indus River; however, under the Indus Waters Treaty, India is obligated to provide Pakistan with its rightful share. He emphasized that the Indus River is the lifeline of Pakistan, and in this matter, the people of Sindh need the solidarity of the entire nation. All Pakistanis, he urged, must raise a united voice on this issue, as it is a matter of survival for tens of millions of citizens. He also commended the Trump administration for imposing the highest tariffs on India.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasizing the urgent need for the immediate issuance of the new NFC Award, said that the provinces must be granted their rightful share and that a meeting of the National Finance Commission should be convened without delay. He said that under the Constitution, an NFC Award is required every five years. He further said that the provinces should not be penalized for the Federal Board of Revenue’s failure to collect taxes, adding that the “babus” (bureaucrats) in Islamabad must not shift the burden of their own shortcomings onto the provinces.
He said that, as a result of the 18th Amendment, the responsibilities and expenditures of the provinces have increased significantly, yet they are not being provided with adequate resources. Highlighting the example of Balochistan, he noted that the province is waging a highly complex war with its limited means. He stressed the need for reforms aimed at eradicating poverty and delivering tangible benefits to the people. The federal government, he urged, must fulfill its obligations and, through consensus, announce the new NFC Award.
Responding to a question, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that neither the government nor any political party has approached the PPP regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He remarked that whatever he knows about the 27th Amendment has come from media reports, and that, as a political party, the PPP has yet to be consulted by the government on this matter.
Declaring the Sindh Peoples Housing Project for the 2022 flood-affected population to be transparent, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the initiative is being implemented with the support of international organizations and NGOs, under which millions of families across Sindh are being provided with newly constructed homes. He said the project is entirely free from corruption and so transparent and digitized that anyone can verify its details online. He described it as a true reflection of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s vision of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan” (Bread, Clothing, and Shelter).
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed out that the people’s government of Sindh has established more educational institutions, hospitals, and universities than any other government. He criticized the federal government for cutting Higher Education funds, which he said creates serious difficulties for the provinces and risks damaging the future of the youth. Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed that the PPP remains committed to establishing a university in every district, enabling young people to advance towards their future with dignity.
He further said that Hyderabad should have an airport facility, adding that he will take up the matter with the Prime Minister and, if necessary, the Sindh government will launch the project itself on the model of Sialkot. He expressed satisfaction with the Sindh government’s clean drinking water schemes and the Ring Road project in Hyderabad, noting that for the first time, rapid progress in the city’s development can be clearly seen. In the past, he said, development was hindered by different political parties being in power at the local and provincial levels, while some political groups focused on spreading hatred instead of serving the public interest. This time, however, by electing the Pakistan Peoples Party in the local government elections, the people have entrusted them with the responsibility of delivering essential services.
In view of the global water crisis, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also stressed the need to adopt modern agricultural techniques in Pakistan, including drip irrigation.
