Lahore: Syed Hassan Murtaza, General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab, has leveled serious allegations against the government, accusing it of deliberately pushing Pakistan Television (PTV) into an artificial financial crisis and conspiring to auction off the institution's assets. He stated that PTV employees have been deprived of their salaries for several months while the government continues efforts to declare the organization bankrupt.

Murtaza alleged that the privatization mafia has set its sights on PTV's properties worth billions of rupees, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is planning to acquire them through frontmen, as it has done in the past. He described this as a calculated scheme aimed at swallowing up PTV through a well-orchestrated conspiracy.

He further claimed that the government's ill intentions are behind PTV's deteriorating condition, where employees' salaries and pensions are deliberately delayed. He also asserted that the removal of the 35-rupee PTV fee from electricity bills is part of the same conspiracy.

Criticizing the Federal Minister for Information and PTV's Managing Director, Murtaza said the credit for pushing the institution toward bankruptcy goes to them. He added that the privatization of state-owned enterprises, including Pakistan Steel Mills, amounts to the economic murder of laborers and salaried employees, as national assets are being transferred to specific interest groups.

Murtaza urged the government to resolve PTV's crisis and ensure the rightful dues of its employees, emphasizing that the institution is not just a media outlet but also a part of the country's cultural and national identity.
