Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has cautioned India against using terrorist attacks as a pretext for war, warning that such actions could ignite a devastating conflict in the region. Speaking to Playbook of Politico on Friday, Bhutto Zardari highlighted the precarious situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

“The threshold [for war] is so low that we effectively say that the decision to go to war will no longer be taken in Islamabad or in Delhi,” said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “The decision will be taken by any nameless, faceless terrorist organization that decides to attack in the future.”

He emphasized that the fragile ceasefire between the two nations leaves the region on edge, with any provocation capable of reigniting hostilities. Bhutto Zardari specifically raised concerns over India's threats to the Indus Water Treaty, asserting that such actions could lead to a dangerous escalation.

On the subject of military confrontations, Bhutto Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s capability to defend itself, referencing the 2019 incident where Pakistani forces shot down multiple Indian aircraft. “Using, among other tools, a JF-17 plane jointly developed with China, Pakistan destroyed three French-made Rafale aircraft, one Mirage 2000, one MIG-29, and an SU30-MKI,” he stated. India has acknowledged losing planes in the confrontation.

The Chairman of PPP urged international actors to recognize the fragile state of South Asia’s security environment and called for concerted efforts to stabilize the region. Bhutto Zardari’s remarks serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, underscoring the need for dialogue and restraint to avert catastrophic consequences.
