Punjab Governor Expresses Solidarity with Iran, Urges UN to Ease Iran-Israel Tensions
Lahore: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian government and people amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict during a meeting with Members of the National Assembly Shehla Raza and Nabil Gabol at the Governor House in Lahore. Highlighting the escalating tensions between the two nations, he warned that the conflict risks destabilizing the entire region and called on the United Nations to take proactive steps to de-escalate the situation.
Governor Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace while emphasizing that the country would never compromise on its sovereignty or territorial integrity. He praised the Pakistan Army’s readiness to deliver a strong response to any threats to national security, including from Israel. The governor also provided an update on the government’s efforts to evacuate Pakistani pilgrims stranded in Iraq due to the regional unrest, noting that additional measures are being implemented to ensure their safe return.
Reflecting on domestic achievements, Governor Khan described the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) decision to increase government employees’ salaries by 50 percent during its tenure as a historic milestone. He expressed confidence that the PPP would regain its political influence in Punjab, similar to its stronghold in Sindh. Turning to Pakistan’s foreign relations, he underscored the deep fraternal ties with Iran, describing it as a brotherly neighbor that Pakistan would support during challenging times. He cited the warm reception during the Iranian President’s recent parliamentary speech, where pro-Pakistan slogans were raised, as evidence of the enduring bond between the two nations.
Reiterating his call for international intervention, Governor Khan urged the United Nations to play a pivotal role in reducing hostilities between Iran and Israel to prevent further escalation in the region.
