President Zardari Stresses Stronger Pakistan-Bangladesh Ties, Calls for Enhanced Cooperation**
Lahore: President Asif Ali Zardari has stressed the immense potential for cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in different sectors, adding that both the countries need to cooperate for the well-being of their people. He said this while addressing as the chief guest at a reception ceremony in honor of the Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket teams and officials at the Governor House Lahore on Sunday.
The ceremony was graced by Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, cricket officials and players of both cricket teams, and other guests.
President Zardari also noted sports as an important avenue to build common connections, adding that the visit of the Bangladesh cricket team to Pakistan is a diplomatic bridge between both countries. "Bangladesh is a fraternal country, endowed with rich resources like Pakistan. With its global reputation as an economic giant, Bangladesh and Pakistan are bound by strong historical affinities," he noted.
Looking back in the past, the President said that the next generation of Bangladesh might not fully appreciate the agony of separation, but those who lived it need to strive towards healing. "It is time to move forward and strengthen our bonds. Stronger relations and closer collaboration are essential for the prosperity of both nations. Our youth must play an active role in this process," he further added.
President Zardari also received earlier on Sunday players and officials from both teams, wishing them warm wishes. He praised the Pakistani team for their performance in the recent series and appreciated the Bangladesh cricket team for their quality play.
The President reaffirmed that their efforts should be combined so that they could make parallel progress and that both the teams would have to take advantage of opportunities for further cooperation in the context of different fields for their peoples.
