PM Shehbaz Sharif Vows Economic Revival in Meeting with Business Leaders
Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with a delegation of presidents from Chambers of Commerce across Pakistan to discuss economic growth, business challenges, and industrial sector issues. During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that after achieving success in the "battle for truth," the government and nation are now united in their determination to secure a historic victory in the economic arena. He expressed confidence that through public-private partnership, Pakistan will soon emerge as a global economic power.
Highlighting the importance of private sector engagement for achieving economic self-reliance, the Prime Minister stated that protecting the rights of Pakistan's business community and providing them with a profitable environment are top priorities for the government. He outlined several measures being taken to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including reducing business costs, implementing business-friendly policies, facilitating access to loans, and rationalizing electricity tariffs.
The Prime Minister strongly condemned tax evasion, calling it "poison for the economy," and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to eliminate it. He stressed the need for modern technology in local industries, describing it as a cornerstone of economic progress. Recognizing the role of women entrepreneurs, PM Sharif praised their contributions to national economic growth and pledged full government support to empower them further.
The delegation congratulated the Prime Minister and the Pakistan Army on their recent successes. Business leaders commended the government's economic policies, noting that the improved performance of the stock exchange over the past two years reflects positive economic momentum. They also appreciated reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and proposed additional business-friendly measures. The delegation submitted budget recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year, which the Prime Minister directed the Finance Minister to review.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers including Muhammad Aurangzeb (Finance), Dr. Ahsan Iqbal (Planning), Rana Tanveer Hussain (Industries), Jam Kamal Khan (Commerce), Ali Pervaiz Malik (Petroleum), Hanif Abbasi (Railways), Shaza Fatima Khawaja (IT), Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials.
