ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his efforts in promoting lasting peace in South Asia.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister highlighted the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United States, emphasizing their collaboration in safeguarding mutual interests and ensuring regional and global security.
"Pakistan and the US have been partners for decades, working closely to protect and promote our mutual interests as well as peace and security in critical parts of the world,"* he stated.
PM Shehbaz expressed confidence in President Trump’s leadership, calling him a "great partner" who could revitalize the strategic ties between the two nations.
*"I am confident that in President Trump, Pakistan has found a great partner who can reinvigorate our strategic partnership and strengthen Pakistan-US ties, not only in trade and investment but in all other areas of cooperation,"* he added.
Earlier, President Trump announced his intention to boost trade with both Pakistan and India while offering to facilitate a resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
"While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great nations. Additionally, I will work with you both to see if... a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir,"* Trump posted on X.
The development follows Trump’s announcement on Saturday that Pakistan and India had agreed to a ceasefire after *"a long night of talks mediated by the United States."
